Guests will have the opportunity to tour five historic homes and the Bear River Heritage Center, site of the railroad club’s 1913 Petoskey model railroad display. Docents will be at each home to guide visitors and answer questions.
The William and Hannah Seibert home at 634 Mitchell Street was built in 1899. Mr. Seibert owned a jewelry store on Howard Street. While it has been completely renovated, the home retains many of its original floors and moldings. Early photos of the home will be on display. This home includes two floors and a finished attic space.
The Harner home at 820 Mitchell was built in 1900. Mr. Harner was a piano tuner and ran the Petoskey Music Store. The house went through extensive renovations in 2010, but parts have been kept original.
The Betsy Eaton home at 517 Bay Street was built in 1900. This was also home to Charles Churchill, publisher of the Petoskey Evening News and later Elizabeth Moon, who ran the Palace Theater. The home has a blend of Queen Anne and shingle style architecture.
The McManus house at 121 State Street has a Colonial Revival design. George McManus owned McManus Lumber and the Petoskey Garage and Sales Company. The McManus house was owned by the family from 1907-1950.
The home at 421 Wachtel was built in the late 1800s. It was the childhood home of current Petoskey mayor John Murphy.
Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at the museum or on the museum’s website.  Tickets may be purchased in advance and patrons may begin at the museum or at any home. Homes will be open from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 23.
