The Petoskey Film Theater will be showing the documentary film "Exit Through the Gift Shop" on Wednesday and Friday, January 5 and 7, 7:30 pm at the Petoskey District Library, Carnegie Building. Donations are appreciated.

An amusing, engrossing look at underground art, "Exit Through the Gift Shop" entertains as it deflates the myths and hype surrounding its subjects. The story of how an eccentric French shop keeper and amateur film maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner with spectacular results. Billed as 'the world's first street art disaster movie' the film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shephard Fairey, Invader and many of the world's most infamous graffiti artists at work.

Filmmaker Theirry Guetta had been casually documenting the underground world of street art for years, but when he encounters Bansky, an elusive British stencil artist, his project takes a fascinating twist. Unimpressed with Guetta's footage, Bansky takes over filmmaking duties and Guetta reinvents himself as a street artist named Mr. Brainwash -- and, much to Bansky's surprise, immediately becomes a darling of the Los Angeles art scene.
