By Rick Howard
"Film producer Rick Howard brings a unique look into his world of travel and adventure filmmaking."
For years audience memners have asked Mr. Howard what's it like to travel and make films? Rick decided to give the patron a taste of his new film AWEM. He has included events that have occurred both while filming and when appearing before live audiences fromm coast to coast here in the U.S. and Rick says "Never forget America is every bit as beautiful and exciting as my foreign subjects."
Another thing that makes this film uniquely is his traveling partnet, Buddy, a talkative male cockatiel. That's right, a feathery friend that has delighted patrons whenever he has made an appearance, on stage or at a banquet, planned or unplanned.
In AWEM the audience will circle the globe in 80 minutes. In America the couple will take us to the undersea world of the Florida Keys, we will ski the Colorado Rockies and surf the beaches of Southern California. In the Pacific Northwest we will visit the volcanoes of the Cascade Mountains and expore the ice caves of Mt. Ranier and relive the eruption of Mt. St. Helen.
Around the World in 80 Minutes will take us to the west to the Pacific to the Philippines, Thailand, Bali, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, Tahiti, and East to Europe with stops in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Hollnd, Austria, and Switzerland.
Around the World in Eighty Minutes will give you an insight of this highly adventurous and romatic occupation, or is it?
About Rick Howard - Rick Hward is a Southern California native who grew up in a world of surfing, scuba diving, and sailing. These skills came in handy when he began wandering the world producing travel films.
As a teenager he saw most of the United States on his own.
If he looks familiar to you, perhaps you saw him on television. For a time Rick, as an actor, appeared in a number of commericals and other television shows. But, after his graduation from California State University, with a major in communications, he forgot his acting career and went into the production of documentary and training films.
Rick soon realized, however, that these kinds of films were not for him. He was more people-oriented. He needed a broader canvas on which to paint his filmic stories. So, when a friend asked him if he wanted to journey around the world making a surfing film, he jumped at the chance.
This quest for the perfect wave eventually led him to the Philippines and his first travel-adventure film. Since then Rick Howard has returned time and again to the hauntingly exotic countries of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific in search of stories of their beauty and the people who live there.
Rick visited Holland, England, France, Greece, Turkey, Afganistan, Iran, Pakistan, India, Ceylon, Thailand, Burma, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. He spent eight months in the Philippines as a water sports photographer for the Philippines Department of Tourism.
Rick Howard is out to dispel the rumor that adventure is a thing of the past. One of his favorite travel documentaries was that adventure awaits those who know how to find it. Rick also happens to think that the present is the best time ever to be living and enjoying life. Never one to resist the lure of the far flung corners of the world, Rick is ready to bring us his impressions.
Rick's artistic goal is to make the kind of films about the world that create a sense of wonder at life's possibilities. He is working to continue the cherished tradition of the explorer/filmmaker - the visual story spinner who deepends our appreciation.
