February 15th - 21st, 2010
Office: Festivals/Fairs/Parades
Location: Downtown Petoskey
Beat the “winter blues” during the second annual Winter Blues Festival, scheduled for Monday, February 15 through Sunday February 21 in 2010. This week-long celebration of winter will host a variety of events to bring our residents, ski and snow visitors to Downtown Petoskey.

Some activities begin in January. We are bringing back an all-time favorite event from past Winter Carnivals – a Beard Growing Contest. Winter’s the time to put on the facial hair, so the Winter Blues Festival invites men 18 and over to compete in this fun and furry contest. Just come to the Downtown Petoskey offices at 216 Park Avenue between 10am and 6pm on Friday, January 8. You’ll fill out an entry form and have your picture taken. On Thursday, February 18 at 6:00 pm, you must be present for your final photo and the official judging contest. Judges will select winners in three categories: 1. Longest beard; 2. Mountain Man beard; 3. Poor excuse for a beard. Location for the official judging to be announced.

First prize or longest beard will receive an overnight stay at Stafford’s Perry Hotel and a free breakfast, plus a male mini-makeover including a shave, haircut and facial from an area salon; second prize or Mountain Man will receive the male mini-makeover and a $25 gift certificate to Mitchell Street Pub; third prize will receive the mini-makeover only. Participating salons are Tracy Lee Salon, La Dolce Vita and Trillium Salon and Spa. Participants are also invited to seek pledges for breast cancer awareness through the American Cancer Society. Contestants can invite friends, relatives and co-workers to sponsor them during the six weeks without shaving. All proceeds raised will go toward breast cancer and the American Cancer Society. Pledge forms will be available on the January 8th entry day at the Downtown Petoskey offices.

Warm up your pipes for the newest event, Petoskey Pat, a singing competition on Tuesday, February 16 at 8:00 pm in the Noggin Room at Stafford’s Perry Hotel. Men and women, professional and amateur, are invited to come in costume, bring their own music accompaniment (CD, guitar, etc.) and be prepared to sing in competition for the honor of representing Petoskey for a whole year. If you don’t want to sing, come and support the brave contestants with your cheers or jeers. Winner will be selected by crowd applause. Other prizes will be awarded. Entry forms and details available at www.petoskeydowntown.com.

Purchase your $5 Winter Blues Festival Pin to get discounts at participating stores and free entry into most events.
