Trikke SKKI Demo and More

March 18th - 19th, 2010
Office: Sports
Location: Boyne Highlands

Trikke Skki is a new way to get from top to bottom on the slopes and we're giving you the opportunity to try it out for FREE at Boyne Mountain. What is a Trikke SKKI? Read below for a description.

The Trikke SKKI opens a new world of possibilities for anyone who wants to enjoy the feel of carving on snow. The three point stance of the SKKI brings control, stability and fun on the slopes. The rider just leans the SKKI and the three skis carve to make the turns. The SKKI acts great on prepared slopes but steps it up in powder to bring that element of "being a kid again" to those who dare. Just a brief introduction is sufficient to prepare a new SKKI rider of all ages to experience this ultimate way of enjoying the snow. The design of the SKKI makes an easy entrance possible to all ski lifts: Gondolas, chairlifts, surface lifts, etc.

Share the fun of the SKKI with your friends. Feel the freedom of not being attached; just step off and park it like a bicycle and stroll with comfort to meet your friends at your favorite on-hill restaurant. No more forced stance due to ski boots or snowboard boots. The SKKI is the latest addition to the wide range of Trikke models, all based on the patented 3 point cambering system.

Petoskey Film Theater presents 'Precious'

March 19th, 2010
Office: Cultural/Art Event
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Petoskey District Library, Carnegie Building

The Petoskey Film Theater will be showing the Academy Award winning film "Precious" (Rated R) on Friday, March 19, 7:30 pm at the Petoskey Public LIbrary, Carnegie Building. Donations are appreciated.

Not every movie can survive the kind of hype -- multiple awards at the Oscars, Golden Globes, Sundance and other festivals, rapturous reviews -- that greeted the release of "Precious", but this extraordinary piece of work is more than up to the task. What's particularly notable about the film's success and acclaim is that in the beginning, at least, it presents one of the grimmest scenarios imaginable. The scene is Harlem, New York, in 1987. Teenager Clarisse Precious Jones (played by  newcomer Gabourey Sibide in an absolutely fearless performance) is dirt poor, morbidly obesse, semiliterate, and pregnant for the second time -- both courtesy of her own father (the first baby was born with Down Syndrome). Her home life is several levels below hell, as her bitter, vengeful welfare mother, Mary (Mo'Nique, Oscar, Best Supporting Actress), abuses her both physically and otherwise. Yet somehow, the young woman still has hopes and dreams (depicted in a series of delightful fantasy sequences).

She enrolls in an alternative school, where a young teacher takes her under her wings and even into her home, and visits a social worker who further helps bring Precious out of the darkness. Incredibly, Precious's circumstances deteriorate even more before showing the slightest sign of improvement, and a climactic confrontation with her mother is one of the more wrenching scenes in recent memory. But against all odds, director Lee Daniels, screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher, and especially the wondrously affecting Sibide have managed to make "Precious" a film that will lift the viewer far higher up than one might ever have thought possible.
