3rd Annual Smart Commute Emmet
June 4th - 8th, 2012
Office: Family Fun
Location: Emmet County
The third annual Smart Commute Emmet will be held June 4-8, 2012. The week is intended to provide opportunities and incentives to consider alternative methods of getting to work and school, such as walking, biking, carpooling or taking the bus.

Businesses are encouraged to get their employees involved through the Commuter Cup Challenge, a friendly workplace competition to encourage coworkers to try an alternate commuting method. Teams earn points based on the percentage of total employees who “smart commute” to work.   Smart commuters receive free breakfasts at sponsoring businesses Monday through Thursday, including The Grand Traverse Pie Company and Roast and Toast downtown. The Commuter Cup Challenge Awards Lunch will be held Friday at noon in Pennsylvania Park, also sponsored by several downtown businesses.

Again this year there will be a drawing for fabulous prizes from our sponsors including a new bike, running shoes, walking poles and more! New this year is a FREE bike maintenance class on May 8, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at North Country Cycle Sport that will teach people how to maintain their bikes for a safe commute, as well as a FREE Smart Commute Expo May 27 from 5:00-7:00 p.m at Latitude 45 that will provide additional tips on smart commuting, registration information and refreshments! So register your business today and challenge another business to participate as well!

Smart Commute Emmetwas designed with input and collaboration by over twenty private, public and community organizations and administered by the Top of Michigan Trails Council. For more details and registration information, go to www.trailscouncil.org/smartcommute or contact Jeff Winegard at the Top of Michigan Trails Council office at (231) 348-8280
