The Fine Art of Vacationing
Many artists travel to northern Michigan to find the type of inspiration that only comes from the tranquility and natural beauty that is so abundant in our surroundings. Not surprisingly, they find their muse in the forests, beaches and green fields and decide to make this their permanent home.
Because of this, we are allowed to share their artistic eye through their open studios and galleries. We celebrate the artist through events such as Gallery Walk and Art in the Park, as well as numerous art shows held in neighboring communities. If you’re not lucky enough to attend one of these shows, our galleries are happy to share their everyday art show. The Crooked Tree Arts Center features local artists as well as a gallery that focuses on travelling exhibitions. Downtown Petoskey also features a number of other galleries and artist co-ops. If you’re in the mood for an inspirational drive to find a special gallery, try Three Pines Studio and Gallery north of Harbor Springs or the all-new SOBO Arts Community in Boyne City.
If the fine art of shopping is more your style, you’ll be hard pressed to find any better locations than downtown Petoskey and the Village at Bay Harbor. When you vacation here, you leave shopping malls far behind, but believe us, you’ll never miss them. Our downtowns are stuffed with special gift shops, boutiques, specialty food stores, and other little retail treasures. Once you’ve practiced your shopping skills, join us on the first Saturday in October for the very special Downtown Petoskey Shopping Scramble.
