3 Must See Silent Sports Trails Around Sault Ste. Marie

In Sault Ste. Marie, winter is embraced with open arms and a sense of adventure! The best way to experience the beautiful woods and wildlife in the Eastern Upper Peninsula is to strap on some snowshoes or step into your cross-country skis and hit the trails! Lucky for us, there are three awesome trails that are perfect for some trail hiking in your favorite winter fashion. No gear? No problem! The Regional Outdoor Center (ROC) at Lake Superior State University is a convenient place to rent any outdoor equipment.

Lynn Trail System

It doesn’t get much more convenient than having a cross-country and snowshoe trail right in the city limits! The Lynn Trail System is located in the Sault Seal Recreation Area, about two minutes from downtown Soo. The trails can be found on the other side of the parking lot from the tubing hill, but they run all the way behind the Sault Area Schools soccer field and include trails that cater to all fitness levels.

Algonquin Cross-Country Ski Trail

Located about 10 minutes outside of downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the Algonquin Cross-Country Ski Trail consists of five groomed loops ranging between one and three miles that wind through beautiful woodlands. Trail indicators guide you through the trails, and the trails are lit at night, making this spot very user-friendly so you can concentrate on the scenery and quiet solitude of a winter day in nature. Tahquamenon Falls State Park

One of the coolest winter hiking experiences is to snowshoe or cross-country ski the trails at Tahquamenon State Park. This is a short drive about 90 minutes from the Soo, but is worth it for the unbeatable sights. The six trails guide you through some of the most breathtaking and pristine lands in the state, and will lead you past the majestic Tahquamenon Falls!
