Imagine Petoskey’s bustling local railroad system at the turn of the 20th century—described as one of the busiest suburban rail systems in the state, second only to Detroit. Get on board to learn more about railroads in Little Traverse Bay, past, present and future, at the Essence of Emmet's next presentation on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. The presentation will take place at the Emmet County Fairgrounds Community Center at 6:00 pm and refreshments will be served. The public is welcome and the talk is free.
Presenters include Dylan Taylor and Jane Garver, co-directors of the Little Traverse History Museum, speaking on the beginnings of railroading in Petoskey and sharing pictures of area trains and depots. Looking to the future, Jim Bruckbauer, Deputy Director of the Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities, will speak on the potential return of railroads to Emmet County.
This event is hosted by the Essence of Emmet Collaborative, which includes leaders of local historical societies and historic sites in Emmet County. Their recent projects have included the popular, four-part Esssence of Emmet magazines and this biannual lecture series.
