Lavender Drum Circle at Lavender Hill Farm

Join Lynn Turner of the Northern Michigan Drum Village in a “Lavender Drum Circle” Sunday evenings at Lavender Hill Farm. Drum peaceful vibrations into the earth while surrounded by its beauty. Experience a unique group rhythm achieved by combining people, instruments and fields of lavender. No experience necessary. Meet in the barn if raining.
Restrictions: Those under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Please Bring: There will be just a few extra drums to share, so if you have a drum, shaker, or some type of percussive instrument—bring it. If you don’t have one, bring something to bang on (i.e. empty plastic gallon milk jug, cardboard box, 5-gallon plastic bucket with wooden spoons…) Sorry, no melodic instruments at this gathering.
About the Instructor: Lynn Turner is the director of the Northern Michigan Drum Village. Though she has pursued a fairly hefty academic career, the thread of a rhythm connection has persisted throughout her life. Her love of dance began with 12 years of tap dancing, followed by her first drum class on the djembe (an African hand drum). She stayed with the djembe for a number of years then switched to the African djun-djuns (played with sticks). The poly-rhythm of African drums was completely addictive to her. Her musical journey includes performing memberships with The Djembabes (TX), Trio Bossa Nova (TX), and River Rhythms (NC). Lynn was forced to leave drumming when she returned to Michigan, until she started her new journey in 2017 to start a drum business. From unstructured drum circles to formal world beat classes, Lynn is developing a drumming community and says it is worth it to see the joy that the drums can bring to so many.
