North Central Michigan College will present a special summer lecture featuring Canadian conservationist Joanie McGuffin on Wednesday, August 21 from 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. in the gym in the Student and Community Resource Center. This lecture is the final installment of North Central’s new Summer Lecture Series, offering great speakers on the third Wednesday of June, July and August.  Cost is $10 and includes breakfast.
Joanie McGuffin is a public speaker, educator and one of the founders of the Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy. She is the author of 8 books with her photographer husband Gary. Six are photographic books chronicling their long distance paddling voyages and two are illustrated instructional paddling guides.  LSWC has approached the protection of the Lake Superior through a watershed approach that acknowledges that water knows no boundaries.  When Joanie and the LSWC team built a 600 Water Trail along Lake Superior’s North Shore, they envisioned something much more than a recreational trail.  In 2019, LSWC launched a program Canoes for Conservation which aims to bring the Lake Superior Water Trail to life in a safe, inclusive, accessible way. The program is an ecological and cultural heritage connection to the world’s largest freshwater lake that engages people and their communities socially, culturally, environmentally and economically positive way.
Reservations are required.  Please call 231-348-6600 or email willcall@ncmich.edu to reserve a seat.
